What to prepare for a CAM programming enquiry

Start with your workload and existing production information. Understand what belongs in the first conversation and what comes later.

At a glance

You do not need a complete onboarding pack to start. A machine, an approximate workload and a clear description of the support you need are enough for an initial conversation.

01

Start with the workload

The first conversation is about whether external programming capacity fits your production work. Describe the recurring demand and where your current programming capacity is under pressure. An approximate range is more useful than an artificially precise forecast.

  • Your company and the person we should follow up with.
  • Machine model and control, if known. Say what needs confirming.
  • Approximate parts or programs per week or month.
  • Whether the work involves new parts, repeat parts, revisions, or a mixture.
  • Any timing constraints you want to discuss. These are inputs to the conversation, not a confirmed delivery schedule.

02

Use the information you already have

After the initial discussion, we establish which existing production sources are relevant to the work. These can include STEP models, DXF files, drawings and job context. A source file and its revision should be identifiable so that everyone is discussing the same part.

There is no reason to rewrite information that is already clearly defined in your sources. We use that information first and clarify what is missing or ambiguous. If a model and a drawing disagree, identify the discrepancy rather than silently choosing one.

  • Existing part number and revision reference.
  • Available geometry and drawings for that revision.
  • Relevant material, thickness and production notes where already defined.
  • Any known change from a previous version.

03

Separate the enquiry from technical onboarding

Machine, control, tooling and postprocessor fit need to be established before recurring programming work is accepted. You do not need to solve that assessment before contacting us.

The first enquiry form does not request production-file uploads. Once the scope is understood, we agree what is needed for technical review and how it should be provided. Portal New Order accepts STEP/STP or IGES/IGS geometry and separate PDF reference documents. It requires at least one accepted geometry file; it cannot create a DXF-only or drawing-only order. DXF, image drawings and ZIP files are not accepted by these upload controls. If your available sources do not fit those controls, discuss the handover before submission; no alternative upload path is implied.

04

A useful starting message

Describe your situation in your own words using the outline below. Estimates and explicitly unknown details are fine.

  • We use [machine model] with [control, or to be confirmed].
  • Our recurring workload is approximately [parts or programs per week/month].
  • We need support with [new work / recurring workload / revisions].
  • Our existing sources include [models / drawings / other production information].
  • We would like to discuss [timing, expected outputs or a particular constraint].

This guide explains the collaboration workflow. Agreed scope and setup-specific technical review determine the work for each client.

Apply it to your workload

Let’s make the next step clear.

Have a machine and a workload in mind? That is enough to begin the conversation.
